Kings Canyon Hooded Moto Vest 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

7 reviews   |

The Liberty Jane® Kings Canyon Moto Vest designed to fit 18-inch dolls is the latest addition to the Outback Libby Collection! This darling hooded vest combines the spunky styling of a moto jacket with the casualness of a hoodie. When paired with the Kings Canyon Peplum Top, the blend of rugged and feminine capture the Australian style perfectly!

Design features for this fully lined vest include: double breasted moto styling with functioning buttons, trendy raw edge trim around the armhole, and a sporty knit hood. The vest is designed to have a loose fit and can be easily worn over a variety of other clothing items. It will also fit a variety of 18 inch dolls, including the larger pre-Mattel AG dolls!

Suggested fabrics in this PDF sewing pattern include cotton twill, linen, denim, canvas, faux leather, or suede. The knit hood works best in a mid-weight knit like french terry, sweatshirt fleece, cotton rib, or jersey. A printed cotton is a fun way to add a little ‘surprise and delight’ to the lining. Rayon and poly linings also work well.

Supplies Needed:
-1/4 yard of fabric
-1/4 yard or scraps for lining
-Scrap of knit for hood (9" x 14”)
-5 - 1/4” buttons
-Matching thread

Cutest vest possible

Very well designed, details look complex but instructions are straightforward to follow. It takes a bit more time to construct than many garments but it is worth it. I used microsuede for one vest and some mystery upholstery remnant for the other. Print quilting cotton for the lining. For the hood, my knit fabric was really lightweight, so I made a self-liner for the hood to give it more substance. I tacked the lining to the outside fabric along the seamline to hold it together. Splurged on metal snaps which (after a bit of practice) are really easy to install. My fabric wouldn't fray at the armhole trim but I just cut it to a generous 1/8" and the bias gave it a bit of a wave which looks just fine. Everyone who saw them wanted me to make a full size adult version! Very edgy for doll clothes! I paired with a the Harper skirt, a buttonfront mini skirt (not shown) and the moto pants, which are also great. My doll is a bit bigger in the torso, but this vest fit fine. Could cut it a bit bigger if you wanted a heavier top underneath.

Great fun to sew.

I really liked this pattern. The instructions were well written and pictures made it easy to follow. I made this vest from recycled denim jeans and a thick knit fabric. The denim sewed up pretty well, and I was pleased with the results. I made working buttonholes. The vest sizing allows for a shirt to be worn underneath and still button up. I would like to make a couple more in different fabrics. When I trimmed the armhole bias, I used pinking shears, which made it very easy to fray the edges.
