Everyone who grew up in the 80s remembers those trendy bright plastic shoes we called jellies. Although predecessors to these shoes probably originated in the late 50s or early 60s, it wasn't until the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee the jelly craze took off. The 80s was totally into all things bright and synthetic and jelly shoes. At first, although they were cheap to produce, their high price tag made them chic to wear. Soon high demand and brand knock-offs brought prices down to as low as $1 a pair and kids were buying them in every color and style under the sun.
Make your own 18 inch doll size version of these jelly shoes using a handful of glue sticks and the instructions from this pattern, by Thimbles and Acorns, to make a simple mold from household silicone and cornstarch!

- One 9” x 12” craft foam sheet (2 mm thick)
- 8” of 1/4” wide decorative trim
- White school glue or craft glue
- 100% silicone caulk (ONLY 100% silicone, no latex or acrylic)
- Cornstarch
- Mineral or Vegetable oil
- Four - Five large glue sticks or eight to ten small glue sticks - glitter glue sticks are perfect for this project
Tools:
- Glass cutting surface (window or picture frame glass will work)
- Glass pie plate
- Razor blade or X-Acto™ knife
- Scissors
- Caulk gun
- Hot glue gun
- Parchment paper
- Candle and matches
- Saucepan for boiling water
- Iron
- Disposable bowl or bucket
- Optional-plastic gloves (DO NOT USE LATEX GLOVES. Latex reacts with the silicone making the putty very sticky and hard to work with)
