The Curving Cardigan: for those times that just need an extra feminine touch! This pattern, by Forever 18 Inches, uses a very easy, modified version of the Hong Kong Finish for the flirty curved edges on the bodice and sleeve cuffs. It goes together quickly and can be made from one fabric (separate ribbing is not required for the edging, although it can be used.) The look of this sweater can be changed dramatically by fabric choices, sleeve length, contrasting (or not) banding, and two styles of sleeve choices. Lightweight knits with a moderate one-way stretch (no more than 40%) are recommended.
Also included in this PDF pattern are some helpful resources for choosing the right knit. A retail resource is listed, along with a referral for a home-made gauge to help identify the actual stretch in a fabric.
On Fit:
This pattern was sized on a recently purchased American Girl Doll (Chest: 11”, Waist: 10 ¾”, Hips: 12 ½”). If your doll is older/larger, you will probably need to make adjustments to the pattern for an optimal fit.
Recommended Fabrics: Lightweight Knits with less than 40% stretch.
Supplies Needed:
-A pair of small, very sharp scissors (essential for the Hong Kong Finish trimming process)
-½ yd. of a lightweight knit (58” wide) with a moderate (no more than 40-%) one-way stretch
-Matching thread
-Optional: a small button
-Optional: graph paper for drawing the bias strip pattern piece OR a rotary cutter and cutting mat
-Optional: A Ball-Point sewing needle (often used with knits). FYI: I used a regular needle for all the pieces I sewed with this pattern with great success
Skill Level: Easy Intermediate
