Living on the Prairie didn't always mean plain and simple dresses; the expansion of railroads after the Civil War brought civilization and society within easy reach of most pioneer families. This two piece dress and jacket ensemble by Thimbles and Acorns would have made a great addition to a young pioneer girl's wardrobe in the late 1870s and early 1880s as its clean and simple lines were both practical and attractive. The "past" ensemble includes a sleeveless dress with a front ruffle. It closes in the back with either button or snap fasteners. The jacket features graceful curved lapels, a decorative back belt, and pleated patch pockets. The hemline of the dress and sleeve cuffs are finished with pleated trim. The classic design translates well into a more modern "present" look with a high -low hemline and eased feather-edged ruffle trim. To complete your outfit, add a simple wide brimmed straw hat.
