Your American Girl doll will be the star of the show in this cute dance recital outfit, by Jelly Bean Soup Designs! The leotard has been embellished with sparkly stars or heart shapes. Fabric and embellishment choices can be wild and crazy or sweet and demure. The leotard is not made from stretchy fabric but could be. Other trim ideas are limitless. Machine embroidery would also be so cute! Her hat looks difficult to make but actually goes together quite easily by following the step by step directions given in the PDF pattern.
Supplies Needed: Leotard:
-1/3 yd fabric such as poly satin; cotton works well
-1/3 yd lightweight cotton for lining
-1/8 yd sparkle fabric (for applique stars or hearts)
-4 inches of
hook and loop tape -scrap of fusible web for applique
-thread to match
Hat:
Hat using all one fabric: 1/3 yard
Hat using contrasting fabrics: 1/4 yd fabric for crown of hat and top, 1/4 yard of second contrast for inside of brim and lining
-1 piece 10 1/2 X 13 1/2 inch plastic needlepoint canvas (from craft store)
-1 package of 4 1/2 inch round needlepint canvas (they come 6 to a package but you only need 2)
