1940s Pleated Felt Hat, by Thimbles and Acorns
This fully lined hat pattern includes instructions for creating a hat block to mold a basic felt hat from a flat piece of felt fabric that is then cut and folded into a fashionable 1940s style hat.
This PDF sewing pattern is sized to Fit 12.25 (31cm) Head Circumferences for dolls such as American Girl® and Other Similarly Sized Dolls.
Suggested Fabrics: Hat in wool felt, wool blend felt, or acrylic felt. Not suitable for knits. Hat Lining and Bias Trim in lightweight silk, linen, cotton, or synthetic. Not suitable for knits.
Supplies Needed:
- 4-inch styrofoam ball, the closed cell type
- 6 1/4-inch wide rubber bands, that fit snugly around the styrofoam ball
- Serrated knife
- Buttonhole thread for cutting the styrofoam ball
- Four pins, preferably T-pins to hold the hat on the styrofoam hat block
- Cornstarch or choice of Fabric Starch
- Soap
- 12-inch square of felt
- 10-inch square of lining fabric
- 14-inches 1/2-inch wide ribbon for hat band
- Fray preventative (optional)
- Small decorative feathers
- Thread
- Tapestry or Leather needle
- Fabric pencil
- Sewing Machine
- Iron and pressing tools
- White vinegar for cleaning your iron
