Create a special princess ball gown for your American Girl® and other similarly sized 18" Dolls! This long, extra full gown and full, layered petticoat will turn your doll into an exquisite princess! The skirt is created from multiple layers of lightweight fabrics. An optional petticoat will make the skirt even fuller and more dramatic. Photos, illustrations, and diagrams in this PDF pattern by Dollhouse Designs help make it possible to recreate this look.
The dramatic upper part of the gown is achieved with specially fitted bodice pieces and a graceful gathered pouf about the shoulders. The gown closes in back. Instructions are included for making “butterflies” out of silk flower petals.
Recommended Fabrics: Gown - Silky Special Occasion Fabric such as Organza, Silk, and Sheer fabrics. Also Tulle, mesh, or fine netting; lightweight lining fabric
Supplies Needed:-1 -1/4 yard Silky Special Occasion Fabric such as Organza, Silk, and Sheer fabrics
-1 -1/3 yard tulle, mesh, or fine netting
-3/4 yard lightweight lining fabric
-1/2 yard organza, pearlized, or other sheer fabric
-Petticoat: 1 yard tulle or netting, plus 1/2 yard lightweight fabric
-Trims, Sequins, or Fabric Paint for embellishment (amount varies)
-1 yard of 1/2" wide Stay Tape
-Desired Closures (
hook and loop tape , snaps, buttons, etc)
-Gathered Ruffle Trim/Lace (Optional) –1-1/4 yards of 1 or 1 ½ “ wide Trim/Lace
-Clear Elastic (Optional) – 12 inches for shoulder straps (Not used in example)
