Katya Peasant Top 18" Doll Clothes

2 reviews   |

The Katya peasant top, by Genniewren Designs, is a fun summer top you will want to make for your dolls.

The traditionally styled peasant top has been given a twist with a center smocked or embellished front panel.

The design offers four sleeve options to choose from: an elasticated puffed sleeve, a bell sleeve, two of straight sleeve finished with ruffles and a sleeve that’s pleated at the bottom to reduce the fullness.

The front panel can be embellished in several ways including machine gathering and hand or machine embroidery, traditional geometric smocking, picture smocking, or by sewing on toning or contrasting ribbon to hold the gathers in place.

You could also use different fabrics for the sleeves and center panel to add a modern Euro Style look to your peasant top, or used purchased pre-ruffled trim for the hem and sleeve edges.

If you are making the smocked version of the Katya Peasant Top please note that this pattern does not teach you to smock. The PDF pattern provides three example smocking plates in chart form with finished close up photographs and descriptions of the smocking stitches used.

Recommended Fabrics: Woven fabrics: cotton lawn, batiste, Swiss voile, poplin, chambray, handkerchief linen, imperial batiste, polyester/cotton blends

Supplies Needed:
-Half a yard of lawn, batiste, lightweight cotton poplin, quilter’s cotton or polycotton broadcloth, or three toning/matching fat quarters (18" x 22") or the equivalent in pieces left over from dressmaking.
-Approximately half a yard of one inch bias binding (unfolded width). This can be home made to match your fabric, or purchased bias binding.
-Narrow elastic (high stretch), approximately ⅛ inch wide. Depending on how stretchy your elastic is you will need between 10-12 inches (25 -30 cm) for the neck elastic, and if you are making the puffed sleeve top you’ll need a further 12 cm (5 inches) for each sleeve.
-2½yards of purchased lace trim can be used for the bottom ruffle and sleeve edges if preferred.
-You will also need assorted trimmings and contrast or toning bias binding for use as flat piping, or miniature piping cord (heirloom style).

Skill Level:  Intermediate to Advanced (Advanced is for smocked version)
