Sweetheart Skirt 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

The Sweetheart Skirt makes a great addition to any 18” doll wardrobe!

Designed for confident beginners, this little pull-on skirt features:
   •   an elasticized waist
   •   a front overlay gathered into a center front loop 
   •   lined heart-shaped pockets at the sides 
   •   a cute little bow at the center front, or both pockets and bow

The skirt can also be made with a contrasting fabric bow, pockets, and overlay for a different look and is a great way to use up your workroom scraps! 

This easy skirt has no zippers or buttons and is quick to stitch up.  

Make one or several for your 18” dolls of all brands as the waist is adjustable. 

The versions on the cover are pictured on dolls with waist measurements of 10” (left) and 10 ½” (right).

This PDF sewing pattern by Frog Princess Fashions is designed to fit 18 Inch dolls such as American Girl®.

Recommended Fabrics:  Best suited for fabrics such as lightweight wovens, cotton, poly-cotton, rayon, gauze, light chambray, vintage quilting calicos, plaids, or ginghams. Overlay may be made of organza, eyelet, or other lightweight sheer wovens. Not recommended for stiff, heavy weight fabrics or for stretch knit fabrics of any weight.

Supplies Needed:

Fabric: Views A and B:
  • ¼ yd fabric (or a fat quarter) 
View C:
  • 1/8 yd each (or workroom scraps) of two or more contrasting fabrics (or contrasting fat quarters)
Notions:
  • 12 ½” of ¼” wide soft elastic
  • High quality matching polyester or rayon thread, depending on fabric choice
  • New, sharp size 11/12 needle designed for wovens
  • ½ yd fusible stretch hem tape (generally used for knits) 

Optional:

  • 11 ½” length of gathered lace, piping, or flexible brain trim  ⅟8”- ¼” wide 

Recommended tools, but not necessary:

  • Very small safety pin, blunt plastic yarn needle, or other tool for threading elastic
  • Mini iron, pressing ham
  • Turning tool (Designer's Tip: I use a wooden chopstick with a pointed tip)
  • Small sharp scissors (for cutting the heart)
