Washday Accessories 18" Doll Accessories

What was washday like in the 1930s and 1940s? If you were lucky, you had a wringer washer; otherwise, you would boil water to wash your clothes! A dryer? Think again! Clothes were hung outside on a clothesline....better hope it doesn’t rain!

These washday accessories, by Eden Ava Couture, are a must for your 1930s or 1940s girl. The set includes a PDF pattern to make:

  • An apron to protect her dress with deep pockets to hold essentials.
  • A headwrap to keep her hair away from her face as she washes and hangs clothes.
  • A laundry bag to hang on the line to hold her clothespins.

Washday work.

The pattern was very easy to use, but the finished product was a bit hard to get on the doll. If I were to make another one I would do some modifications. I haven’t make the clothes pin bag yet, but several reviews suggest making it smaller and I think I will.

Washday Fun!

Super cute pattern and easy to sew together. I found some 1930's reproduction fabric so it went well with Kit from American Girl. Pattern went together very fast. No issues with pattern. I had some wooden clothespins ready to fill up the bag. I'm very pleased with the results. Will make again when Ruthie shows up!

Washday accessories

The clothes peg bag was too large so I reduced it to about 85%. The opening for the pegs sits a little low allowing the pegs to fall out. With these adjustments it turned out very cute. The apron was fine, Neither pattern was difficult to make. Both items look great in Kit’s laundry room.

So cute!

Completed the apron and clothes pin bag in complementary fabrics and a 1930 dress in opposite colors. So cute, clear directions and very easy! I reduced the clothes pin bag to 45% as I thought it was out of scale and it turned out super cute!
