I’ve always loved sewing. My Mom taught me when I was about 7. I learned to sew on Barbie doll clothes. We used to set the sleeves in in the round, not flat like it is done now. That was hard. I did soft sculpting baby dolls when that was big in the 80’s. In college, I was a member of the SCA (an historical recreation group) and learned to sew historical costumes.
After having kids, I didn’t sew for 10 years. I recently (3 years ago) got back into sewing for my and my daughter’s American Girls. Sewing gives me an outlet for my creativity and my desire to craft. I love to sew, it is calming and relaxing. It gives me joy.
I love sewing because it gives me something to do with my daughter we both enjoy.
I getting back into sewing now that I have grandpuppies to sew for.
I am an experienced seamstress but I would love to use this with my students.
I love sewing and love learning new tips and tricks. Looking forward to teaching my daughter to sew soon
ah – sewing – self expression, creating something from a few pieces of scraps, giving a part of me – releasing the inner artisan.
The combination of creativity, relaxation and a tangible item are unbeatable in my book!
I’m learning to sew so I can take my daughters cute outfits and shrink them to fit her doll. Maybe the doll can wear them long the she did! LOL!
I love sewing as it allows me to bring out my creativity.
Why I love to sew: I love to sew because it allows the creative side of me to come out, no matter what pattern I use I can make it a part of who I am, but there is always room to learn more. It is a lost art and will give me some to do that many don’t know how to do and call me to help their cause. And since I’m a sewer, I collect fabric (that’s an understatement) that will come in use when I retire and will keep me busy and useful.
i love sewing because i love to watch my flat fabrics come to life as the creations i make.. clothes, quilts. accessories, whatever i will it to be…
I sew not only because it’s fun, but because I can make someone smile with a handmade gift, comfort a child with a weighted blanket, or delight a senior with a new walker bag…….it’s all about the smile! :-)
I like to sew the eighteen inch doll clothes for me and my adult daughter. I also sew baby quilts and I am trying to get my daughter interested in sewing. I do sew some garments also..
I am coming back to sewing after a pretty much 25 year break. I learned to sew in my Home Economics classes in High School, having both sewing and tailoring. After I graduated I didn’t really stick with it, instead continuing to persue knitting which I had been doing since I was 9 years old and still do to this day, 40 years later. I think this Sewing Book would be great to help me brush up on the techniques I have forgotten over the years, reinforcing them with a project to do for each one. It could become an invaluable reference book for me to go back to time after time. It couldn’t have been released at a better time!
Sewing something is so rewarding. I love to sew for my family. I love to share my knowledge. I bought my daughter-in-law a sewing machine and she has made some nice projects already. I now have granddaughters and would love to have this book to give to them. They will definitely
be sewers too someday!
I love creating handmade things for my family – costumes for my son, doll clothes for my daughter – simple things, as I am very much a beginner, but it is so rewarding to see something I made used and loved! I think I would find this book very helpful!
I love to sew and am thankful that my mom taught me at an early age. Since than I have worked in two factory settings and taken as much as I can from them to use at home. I have also added to my small home business machine embroidery so I can make one of a kind outfits for all my grandchildren and their families this includes my husband and myself. It is so rewarding that I have a goal of just doing my home business very soon! Thanks for adding to my sewing with all the wonderful patterns and tutorials that you have on your site.
I have always loved sewing, my grandmother taught me how to make Barbie doll clothes on an old fashion treadle sewing machine. Sewing makes me feel creative and after coming across Liberty Jane it has given me the chance to bring the creativity to a diffefent level. I will never buy doll cothes patterns at a store again. I have bought some clothing items at Goodwill, the hems are already in, buttons/button holes make less sewing and the outfits come out looking more professional., thanks Liberty Jane!
sounds fun!
I get satisfaction from creating new looks and new items for my dolls but I am a beginner at this so I need all the help I can get.
I have just started out sewing, but I love it because it’s so fun and relaxing, plus I love seeing the finished product.
Sewing for my granddaughter and her doll gives me great joy
This looks like it could be super helpful!
It is my calming moments in life!
My mother sewed because she “had to”, it was expected of her generation to “know” how to mend things. I sew because I “have to”, it is in my soul. I need to be creative every day just like I need to breathe. Sewing plays a vital role in my creativity.
I love sewing simply because it uses my “artful” side to come up with something useful to satisfy my “practical” side.
It’s always fun to share sewing tips…. new ones and old ones. Thanks for a new book with great ideas. j Mrs.C.
I love sewing because it makes me feel connected to my mother who taught me to sew when I was a child. She passed away several years ago and I inherited her sewing machine, so I feel like she is with me and inspiring me every time I sew. It is also a creative stress reliever for me!
I love to see the crafts that the “girls” are up to. The photos are adorable!!
I love sewing, because I feel like I’m in a different world. I love sewing because the creative side of me comes out!
I love sewing because, I feel like I can do anything!
Sewing is in my blood! My mother, both grandmothers and my only aunt all sew. (Even my husband and my mother-in-law sew proficiently). I grew up watching everyone sew, many times for me. As I grew up, I started designing my own Easter outfits, picking out the fabric and having my mother sew them for me (we did this with my prom dress as well). Creating something is the best feeling – I love sewing! I just look forward to being able to do it all by myself :-)
It makes me feel closer to my Great Great Grandmom.
I love sewing because it’s my escape. As a FT caregiver for my disabled veteran husband and very sick daughter, it’s my place to get energized and be creative so I can then tackle ‘life’ at home. It’s also a place for me to create things for our daughter that we cannot afford anymore. So, we take note of styles and interesting things, and recreate our versions of them at home. I was reminded recently that this is what our family has been doing for generations.
I come from a family of seamstresses and have always had the need to create. Unfortunately, I have not mastered the skill of sewing (always having to depend on someone else bailing me out when I do something wrong). This book sounds like an excellent resource to help me gain sewing independence. Thanks for writing it!
I love sewing because I can get a custom fit and style and know that the quality of my garments is good and not come apart at the seams or fall apart plus its not as costly as buying a ready made garment.
Lost sewing machine, material stash and all patterns in Colorado Black Forest fire. Would love to start sewing doll clothes again!
Very soon, I am planning on getting back to sewing. This sounds like a great book to use.
I love sewing for my honorary grand daughter. It makes us both smile!
I love sewing because it gives me a zen-like calmness that I can’t find anywhere else. I enjoy the challenge of trying new techniques and the logic of solving the puzzle of a new pattern. I can lose myself in the joy of fabrics and the hum of the machine. Wow, gotta go and sew right now!
I love the satisfaction I get from creating something unique!
Sewing is relaxing
I have always loved sewing , ever since I was a little girl sewing Barbie doll clothes! I love having something uniique and quuality made.
My mom was a designer back in the ’40’s (way before my time!) then a pattern maker and pattern grader. I used to LOVE going to work with her if she had to work a Saturday. This would have been in the late ’60’s to early ’70’s. It was exciting to be around all the sewing machines, she showed me around the factory where the cutters worked, the different departments, seeing the fabric pieces piled high as they cut through layers with a single swipe of their machinery. The models and designers would be there and it was just so fast paced and fun. I would punch the holes in the heavy pattern paper so my mom could run a hook through the set and hang them along with different sizes she had created that day. I was fascinated with the different tools she used to draw the different pieces of the patterns, the curved rulers for necklines and sleeves. I’m 56 now, don’t ever remember NOT sewing, but don’t remember her actually teaching me. I just remember if a stripe or plaid didn’t match at the seam or wherever, she would make me rip! I hated ripping out a seam. I used to sew my husband’s shirts and then clothes for my sons when they were little. If the fabric was plaid and a pocket on the front, you could not tell there was a pocket! She taught me well.
I love sewing because it give me the freedom to choose the colors and fabrics I want in the projects I’m working on. Whether its clothing for my granddaughter and her doll, a home decor item or a quilt, the possibilities are endless!
I’ve loved to sew ever since I was a little girl, making Barbie doll clothes! I love the fact that I can have a one-of -a-kind article that is truly unique.I’d love to win the book for my sister who has just begun to sew and could really use it.She’s already burned up the motor of her fist machine by sewing heavy fabric w/o giving the wheel a starting boost!
I <3 sewing… I self taught myself to sew when I was younger so I could renew thrift store clothes. Everyday I learn the proper way to see things :).
Congratulations on the new book, Cinnamon! It looks amazing, and very helpful. I’m in Middle School, and my neighbor and I enjoy hours of sewing together, and a book like this would be very useful to us, since neither of our moms sew! Good luck to all of the entrants, it’s an amazing prize!
I’m teaching my daughter to sew and absolutly love your patterns and ideas…. This would be an added resource to have!!!
I have been sewing since I was 10 years old and fell in love with fabric. I am still sewing 50 years later and love the finished projects. I would love to win your book and continue creating new things.
I love to sew for many reasons. I find it relaxing, creative and I have my choice of fabrics and patterns to suit my individuality.
Every female relative on my mothers side either crocheted or sewed. My grandmother would push her dining room table in the corner to make room for a quilt rack and every time anyone visited they would sit down and stitch. My aunt was the only one who had patience enough to teach me to crochet because I was the only left hander. Once an adult my mother and I would sew together. My daughter has no interest in these arts forms. I am trying to instill some kind of craft into my grand daughter. I also taught myself to knit and cross stitch. My best friend does bead work and her and I get together and just stich and bead for a day. I would love Cinnamon’s new book. All the patterns are so easy and the finished product is something you can be proud you made. It looks professional.
My granddaughter wants to learn to sew, this would be perfect for er!
there is nothing that makes me happier than to see the look on my grand daughter’s face when she has doll clothes i have made that are so lovely.
I love to sew because it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, and I have put time into something wonderful. I’m always excited to learn new things/tips! :)
I love sewing…always did from the time I was around 6. Made doll clothes by hand then. I made my first adult blouse by hand with wing collar and sleeves. I now have three sewing machines, serger and embroidery machine….love being in my sewing room creating new things. I’d love to win this book…I could see many possibilities from within.

I love sewing because it saves me so much money to remake things for my kids to wear as they grow. I love the creativity and I love making something from nothing. Just wish I had more time to learn to do it better…
Thanks for a chance to win! I love your patterns & blog!
Sewing lets me do something for myself, while creating something beautiful and functional for others. It also something I can share with my young daughter.
I love sewing because it saves me so much money to remake things for my kids to wear as they grow. I love the creativity and I love making something from nothing. Just wish I had more time to learn to do it better…
I have been sewing for years and years. It is one of my creative outlets. I also love making doll clothes for my granddaughters. My mothers best friend made doll clothes for me and I loved having unique clothes for my dolls.
I love sewing. I just wish I had more time.
I love to sew as it allows me have a creative outlet to the stresses of a very busy career. I enjoy stopping by the fabric store and picking up a variety of fabric textures and colors to make charming outfits for my granddaughters’ American Girl dolls. I have even begun to let them sew the doll clothes up themselves when they visit me; priceless time with my girls.
I love sewing because it’s like starting with a puzzle. I can create the puzzle pieces with a pattern and put it all together as the final complete piece or I can take the pattern or the idea that the gives and create my own puzzle pieces to create something that is all my own. I love making the clothes for my granddaughter’s dolls and seeing the expression on her face.
I have just gotten back in to sewing when I had my first grandchild,FUN!
I learned to sew so I could make doll clothes for my granddaughter. I hope to pass the skill and passion along to her.
I love sewing because it is an opportunity to be creative. I learned to sew from my mother at a very early age but I would love to share this book with some women I work with at a women’s shelter who would like to learn how to sew.
I love sewing because its peaceful to me to have fabric, be looking at it and just say oh. This would look great as… and do it.
I love sewing because I like to create things, I like the processus of building a garment and I love seeing the finished project (as a mom, there are so few “finished” things around me… so many things have to be done again and again…)! I find it very relaxing too…
I LOVE SEWING because I get a rush from completing a project! It is so much fun to create something from scratch and use your creativity!
I love Liberty Jane and your inspiration. I am a self-taught sewer and could use any help I can get.
Sewing is simple therapy for me! Handling the textiles, creating with notions and embellishments and various resources, setting a goal, gifting or just-for-the-pleasure-of-it, following the footsteps of my teachers (grandma and aunt), offering lessons to young laddies in their learning stage of sewing by hand or machine, laughing-at or loving the end product….ahhhh. What a pleasure to have so many options in sewing and serger and embroidery machines. I’ll never be too old (been sewing for 55 years!) to learn more tips and tricks..from your book!
I made clothes for my daughters when they were young but my skills are “rustly”. I would love to win the book and brush up.
I have always loved sewing, I even sewed Barbie patterns by hand before I had a sewing machine. I was lucky enough to be able to learn how to sew in home ec class in school. Sewing is my passion and I can lose myself in it for hours.
Sew it is a passion for me, NOTHING can relax me more than sew. I love create things for my kids. It’s one of the things that make me spend time with my daugther. For me NOTHING BETTER THAN SEW!!
I love sewing because it is one of the only things that i am good at! When i sew i feel relaxed and happy. I love your patterns and i have used them (and altered them) to make many different historical and modern outfits
I love sewing! I learned to sew from my grandmother. I have since passed on that knowledge to my sisters and my children, yes, even my sons have sewed projects, what joy to help with 4-H sewing projects. It is so fun to watch new ideas on t.v. shows and now the internet. Sewing is a part of my life and I love sharing it with those who do not yet know the joy and satisfaction of making something for themselves that they can wear or show to others. I would use your book to pass on the fun of sewing to the next generation. My granddaughter is 4 and we can have fun sewing!
I love everything about Cinnamon Miles, Liberty Jane and Pixie Faire..including their patterns and tutorials. Can’t wait to read the book!
You inspired me by making it so easy and understandable, I am 59 and proud of it and I sow with my granddaughter of 10 years.
And we love spending quality time together.
Sewing is an escape for me….when I sew, I lose all track of time and find myself in a kind of limbo until the item/garment is finished, and I can then hold it up with joy and satisfaction!
This has been true all my life, and I hope to pass this pleasure to my grandchildren. Would love to give the sewing book to one of them!
Many years ago I found myself very ill. I was unable to do anything that I once found joy in. I refused to sit and accept my fate, and began to make a gift for my daughters friend who was expecting. I say that like it took a day. It took me weeks to be able to set up my machine and find thread and I most likely had to stay in bed for a week after attempting to purchase fabric. I did not drive at that time either someone had to take me. I finished it, not up to what my skill level is now but the very best I could do at that time. Sewing offers us a way to get outside ourselves and think about someone other than us. Congratulations on the publishing of a book, I sure more goes into it than what the reader could ever imagine.
One big reason is that I love the smile on my granddaughter’s face when I give her a doll outfit that I sewed with her favorite colors.
I would love to win Cinnamon’s new book. I love all the patterns here
I love sewing for many reasons, one of them is that it is carrying on a tradition handed down thru generations….Thanks, MOM!
I love sewing because of all the wonderful things you can make. I think it is just an all around essential thing to learn to do. I can’t wait to teach my future kids to sew.
I love sewing because it gives me an opportunity to be creative and bring to joy to others. It is a way for me to be who I really am! Congrats on the new book!
I started sewing when I was 5 years old making doll clothes from feed sacks. I made my first dress when I was 9. It was white with red polka dots and had red ties at the shoulder and a red belt. I was so proud! I am now 65 years young and give sewing lessons to friends and my 9 year old granddaughter but am constantly amazed that I continue to learn new things. Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
I love being able to sew things for my home and family … it allows me to get “custom” looks at a price my budget can handle. :)
I love sewing even more as a Cutting Room member. Great site. Thanks!
Like a painter selects colours, canvas and brushes for their works of art, I select my fabrics, lace and buttons and I too am an artist. Like the artist painting a landscape, I take a pattern and make it my own.
I love sewing because it is my art.
Rosemary
I love sewing because I like making things that are completely unique!
I have been sewing my whole life and I am just amazed at what I see you sew. It gives me much pleasure in sewing doll clothes. I am in the process of trying to teach my granddaughter to sew. I want her to share the pleasure.
I love sewing because it is creative and rewarding. When I was about 6 years old, my aunt, a talented seamstress, decided to teach the little girls in our family basic hand sewing. My sister and cousin soon lost interest, but I was hooked. At 10 I was hospitalized with an appendectomy, and this same aunt brightened my stay with a goodie bag of fabric scraps and doll-size buttons…fabulous! These days, I make and sell cloth dolls of many types and, of course, doll clothes. I love sewing with Liberty Jane patterns. The directions and photos are great. I know this will be a super book! Congratulations, Cinnamon!
I love sewing because you just feel proud of yourself when you are looking at the final creation. I love that feeling after creating something and knowing that you made that. Whether by hand or by machine, you still feel proud. Sewing is soothing to me after a long day. It lets me take a moment to relax and do what I love. I cannot wait to get a sewing machine of my own so I can stop using my mothers.
I have been sewing since junior high school. I sew for myself and do alterations for my customers. I how to sew book would be helpful for beginning and experienced sewers since you are never to old to learn.
I have been sewing since I was in junior high school. I sew nearly every day for myself, grandchildren and my customers. A sewing manual would be helpful to beginning sewers and experienced sewers, we are never to old to learn.
I taught myself to sew in the last 7 years and my daughter who is 6 is learning. She really wants to make her own AG doll clothes. This book would so wonderful to have!
I learned to sew and love sewing while watching a wonderful older lady take scraps and make beautiful outifts for me. She sewed with love, and it enveloped my heart. By the time I was in high school, I was doing the same thing for special little girls. My newest joy has been helping young girls learn to sew and love it. This would be a great book to share with them as I help them know how to make their own masterpieces!
I love to sew and enjoy all the challenges that it gives me and want to pass the “the art and the love to sew idea” and enthusiasm on to my granddaughters. Thank you for making this offer possible.

I have been sewing for 55 yrs. Both grandmothers were my teachers. I made my first quilt sitting in Granny’s lap while my cousin sat on the floor working the treadle. We did take turns at that job.
