Hi everyone,
On Friday (April 27th, 2018) we'll have a free doll clothes pattern available from Jane Ruhl, the designer behind the Sweet Pea Fashions pattern collection.
More About Jane and Sweet Pea Fashions: Hi, I’m Jane Ruhl, and I hail from Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby! While you might think that the Kentucky Derby is just a horse race, those of us who live here know that what Mardi Gras is to New Orleans, the Derby is to Louisville. It’s a three-week-long festival that begins with one of the largest fireworks shows in North America and ends when the parties break up late on Derby Day. In between, there are parades, races of all kinds (involving people, rodents, steamboats, hot air balloons, and even beds), and PARTIES!
One thing the Derby is about is fashion. When someone says they are going to the Derby, two questions inevitably follow: What are you wearing? Do you have a hat? Derby outfits are carefully chosen. Unless you are in Millionaire’s Row, chances are you will be outside. Usually, that means you’re dressing for warm weather. Easy to wear dresses and sundresses are a great choice. No-fuss fashions rule the day. You’re likely to be standing most of the day, so comfortable footwear is a must. And the sun shines bright on our old Kentucky home, so a hat serves a function keeping the sun off your face. But these guidelines leave lots of room for looking fantastic on Derby Day!
If you want to create a Derby outfit for your doll, Sweet Pea Fashions has you covered. Check out my patterns for dresses, shoes, and hats!
Click here to view the pattern hack that shows you how to use the Palmetto Swimsuit pattern to make a stylish sundress that is perfect for Derby Day! And be sure to enter next week's Mod Doll Monday giveaway for your chance to win Jane's custom made Palmetto Sundress and an 18 inch American Girl® doll!

Love love the hat!
Love tbem all
Love all that was put up for us today. I love the hat, but with a little less on top. I live the shoes too. All is cute. Whichever you let us have is OK. Thank Tudor it!!
The hat, just learn to crochet and it would be nice to try new hat
Thank you to all the amazing designers
and Pixie Fare for great selections of free pattern on Fridays. I like the hat but all are amazing. Thank you
Shawligan – all 4 are great. My vote is for the shawligan.
This is when I really wish that I knew how to crochet! I love to sew and I have tried to tackle learning to crochet but it just didn’t happen! Looks like I will have to try again! If I could crochet I would vote for the hat and the shoes!
Thank you Jane, for the lovely pattern choices! My vote is for the Springtime Straw Hat.
The hat please! Thank you so much Jane – I have your sandals.
I love that sun hat! I haven’t done any crochet for many years. I hope this will serve as a good refresher! Thank you for the patterns and inspiration.
new to crocheting for dolls… would love to try it!
Thank you for the chance to chose the design .
I think the Sophia slipons will be it,this time.
The shawligan is my favorite. But I have the hat and shoe patterns. These make up quickly and look great when finished. Looking forward to see which wins this week. If you are a beginner crocheter you will be pleasantly surprised how easy these make up.
Love all of these! Just new to crocheting & knitting & have never done a hat but I’d be willing to try any of them. I think my vote goes to the hat though.
My fave is the hat so i guess that is where my vote goes. Thank you for all the great choices.
I love the sandals and sweater/shawl! I would really like to learn how to make those sandals! that sandal pattern is great! Thank you for these giveaways!
Many thanks, Jane. I vote for the delightful hat.
I love the crocheted Sofia slip-ons.
Thank you for giving us such great choices! I am really hoping the Martina sandals win. They are so beautiful and different!
The only crochet I’ve ever done in my life was granny squares, so I’m voting for the Sofia Slip-ons because they look similar to the same techniques. Who knows, I might try picking up a hook again.
My vote went to the hat. It is so cute. I will have to try my hand at crocheting.
I voted for the slip-ons
Tough choice! The Shaligan but all of them are too cute!
Thank you Jane—the patterns are all so cute! I only ever crocheted one scarf many years ago, but I voted for the hat as it’s marked easy and I can give it a try. All I ever use are the plain, all alike, manufactured straw hats when I can find them and yours are beautiful! Cinnamon—even though this week’s choices are not aimed at me, I’m so happy you offered a crocheted collection for those who will appreciate it as much as I did the 14" doll patterns last week! The freebies should be for everyone and the odd one out never wins on an offering with 18" patterns included. I love my 18" AG dolls, but many others too!
The hat is so adorable. Thank you.
The hat … if I could only crochet
Decisions, decisions – all are cute! I have to go with the slip-on because I can see that being the most versatile for me. Thank you Jane for your generosity and thank you Cinnamon for all you do!
They are all adorable but my vote went for the Shawligan. I was torn between the hat, as we always wore a hat back in the ’50 & ’60. You always purchased a hat to match your outfit as well as your shoes and purse. But that shawligan is just too cute.
I vote for the hat
Love the offerings! I don’t crochet but now I think I will have to take a class. Love the springtime straw hat. Thanks so much.
Beautiful patterns! I’ll have to learn to crochet. THANK YOU!!!!
Liked the crocheted sandals, that look a bit like Roman sandals. That would be the second pattern. Would love to try and make them.
I vote for the Hat. Jane, thank you so much for your beautiful patterns.
It was tough, choosing between crocheted shoes (either shoes or sandals) and the hat. But the HAT won!
As a child of the 50s and 60s I love hats. I hate they have all but passed from our current fashion. Wasn’t Melania’s lovely, elegant and yet understated, I certainly voted for the hat; now I have incentive to learn crochet.
Thanks, Jane, for offering such cute patterns! I voted for the hat—we love hats at our house! Thanks, Pixie Faire for such great giveaways!
Thanks, Jane, for your persistent generosity and hard work. The crocheted sandals look like a great choice to me.
Thank You Jane for these beautiful patterns. My vote is for the shawligan. Although the hat is a very close second. I don’t crochet but have a daughter who can teach me.
Another hard choice! Thank you, Jane, for sharing your talents with us! I had a hard time deciding this week, but finally went with the hat.
Love the Derby and all designs. Especially the hat. Thanks. Eileen
The patterns are wonderful, unique and so well.
Love all the patterns and appreciate you offering them. There are two I am putting on my wish list.
I love that sun hat! And not knowing how to crochet it is a win/win; I’ll learn how along the way!
The shawligan is so cute. It gets my vote this week. Thanks Jane, and Cinnamon
with her team, for this weeks offerings. I love to crochet and spend many fun hours on my projects, but I’ve never seen a shawligan before.
They are all lovely, but I vote for the shawligan.
I love them all but the shawligan is very cute and I would like to make a matching one for a child.
I love the slip-ones. I can see making a pair for each of my summer outfits
The shawligan is my favorite.
I like them all very much, but I’m choosing the slip-ons, Thanks for making life so difficult . . . !
I love them all – I voted for the Shawligan.
I vote for the sandals – so cute!
It’s all cute but I need shoes! The sandals would go with so much
je vote pour Springtime Straw Crocheted Ha joli chapeau
I like the hat but the slip on shoes are great
I vote for the sandals- so cute!
I voted for the hat but also really like the braided sandals.
The hat. Perhaps I’ll learn to crochet someday.
I like all of these patterns! Thank you, Jane, for the crochet patterns.
I chose the Hat. So cute! I love all the patterns thought
i like them all too
Hard choice to make but I finally decided on the hat. Living in Florida my AGs could use some hats!
Hat
Hat
Love them all!
What cute options! I am voting for the Martina Sandals, although the hat and shawl are a close second. Thank you for sharing your talent with us and offering a pattern this Friday!!!
I chose the Hat. I really like it and should be a quick job.
Fell in love with the Shawligan as soon as I saw it. Hoping it gets the winning number of votes. Thank you for the freebies…they’re so exciting and fun.
I vote for the Sophia Slip On’s …..thou I love them all.
I love the Sofia slip ons but really they are all beautiful. Thank you!
Thanks, Jane. All the patterns are lovely but I,m choosing the shawligan. Great to have crochet patterns!
Wow, what choices this week! I’m not great at crocheting anything but I chose the Braided Sandals.
I love the hat. It looks like an Easter hat that I had as a kid. Where can we gear rayon raffia? Thank you, thank for a great pattern
Have not crocheted in years, bit love the hat, so will give this a try. Darling choices, not sure I can do this, but appreciate the opportunity to try!
I been shying away from crochet items for dolls thinking it would hard. I know basic crochet and been wanting to get back into it. This hat has convinced me it’s time. LOL
I’ve been wanting to learn how to crochet for a long time now, this just might be the perfect opportunity!
Thank you so much for offering the crochet patterns, they are all wonderful. I ended up choosing the sandals but was a very hard choice. The hat, shoes and shawligan are wonderful.
I was just looking at some doll cardigan’s last night. excited to know a pattern was in the choices. I don’t know how to crochet but want to learn. Hard to choose between that and the hat.
I love all the items, but I don’t crochet, so I guess it leaves me out completely.—Sadness.
The Sophia slip-ons would look so cute with a lot of summer outfits. Thank you for this opportunity to crochet instead of sew!
I vote for you the sandals. But I love all of them. Thank you!
I like the braided sandals.
Love, Love, Love the sandals! Thanks Jane and Pixie Faire.
I have already made a couple hats using the hat pattern. Really darling! I would like to try the shawligan pattern. Thank you for this offer.
Oh what lovelies to choose from! I’m going for the hat because my little one doesn’t yet have a single one. And by the way I love your profile picture!
Wish I could crochet. Maybe I can learn if those instructions come with the pattern. they are all cute.
Hi Jane your patterns are so darn cute. I am way out of practice crocheting, but maybe this would be the push I need to start trying again. I love all of the patterns but had better stick to an easier one to start. I love how the little hat looks so that one gets my vote this week. Thanks for giving us the chance to get one of your patterns for free. Thank you Cinnamon and Pixie Faire as well.
I love all these patterns! My choice is the Shawligan. Thank-you Jane.
Love them all – but voted for the Spring Hat – so cute. Many thanks Jane for this offer
Spring Hat for me! I hope to learn to crochet one day! Thank You for freebie Fridays!
Wow! I love them all! All of them are on my wish list so whichever one wins is a winner for me! Thanks for the great patterns! I voted for the Shawligan.
Hi Jane! I’m so excited about this week’s option! I really hope the Sofia Slip-ons pattern wins. I’ve loved it since the first time I saw it. It reminds me of some shoes I wore as a child. They look so realistic and sweet! They would go nicely with s very wide range of fashion designs in doll clothes. Thanks for your contribution to Freebie Friday. God bless!
Crochet?? Wish I knew how.
It’s easier for me to use yarn than crochet thread, so my vote is for the Springtime Straw Hat. It looks easy to make and it would be so much fun for girls to decorate!
Cute patterns, I voted for the sandals, but I love the Hat and other patterns as well.
Thank you much for sharing your crochet patterns… I love them all, it is tough to pick just one! I will enjoy whichever one wins, though I did vote for the Braided Sandals!
Wish I knew how to crochet!
I vote for the straw hat. Very cute and looks like something I could actually make … and actually finish! A great starter project to crochet. Thank you!
